Sashiko Basics
... about the workshop.
Sashiko Basics February 8, 2025, Saturday. 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join us for an unforgettable artistic experience with Rachel Barclay. The workshop promises to be a delightful journey into the intricate world of Japanese embroidery, where art meets tradition in the most beautiful fashion. Participants will learn how to draw out grids, braid thread, and use Sashiko "small stabs" to stitch patterns of their choice onto sampler squares. The hand-stitched squares can easily be made into a patch, pocket, coaster, sachet, or pin cushion. The abstract designs are inspired by nature, culture, and architecture. Choose from a variety of traditional Sashiko patterns that suit your design aesthetic and stitching comfort level: tiny plus signs, linked steps, star stitch, ocean waves, or linked treasures. Participants will partake in a vibrant and engaging setting, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts and the charm of Berkshire's rustic beauty. You will also enjoy refreshments to keep you inspired as you thread, stitch, and transform fabrics into works of art. All skill levels are welcome! All you need to bring is your passion for creativity and an open mind to learn and share with a community of like-minded individuals. Bring your good reading glasses! Take home kit includes a pair of Sashiko needles, tapestry needle threader, pattern instructions and colorful Sashiko threads. You will have access to other necessary materials during class. Secure your spot at this inspiring event and discover the serene elegance of Japanese embroidery with Rachel Barclay. Sign up today and prepare to weave your own story in threads at this captivating gathering of art and culture.
